The Company will be appearing in three Italian cities — Bari, Parma and Modena.
Six performances of Swan Lake will be given at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari. With seating for 1482 people, this is Italy’s fourth biggest theatre. It bears the name of the Petruzzelli brothers, a family of merchants and ship-owners, who submitted a project for the theatre, designed by Angelo Messeni, their relation, to the city authorities. The original theatre, which opened in 1903, was destroyed by fire in 1991 and it wasn’t till quite recently — December 2009 — that it opened its doors again to the public.
The tour program will also include four performances of Giselle, in Vladimir Vasiliev’s version; they will take place at the Teatro Regio di Parma, and the Teatro Comunale di Modena which, in October 2007, was renamed Teatro Comunale Luciano Pavarotti, after its famous citizen and life-long resident.
