The ballet Onegin has been danced by just about all the world’s leading companies: Paris Opéra Ballet, Vienna Opera Ballet, London’s Royal Ballet, Tokyo Ballet, American Ballet Theatre (ABT), Boston Ballet, Ballet San Francisco and many, many others. And the performances are invariably accompanied by success. Cranko shows great skill as a ‘story- teller’, his crowd and his duet scenes are arranged superbly, he has a very inventive approach to high holds which, it is considered, he learnt from the Russians during the Bolshoi Theatre’s first London seasons. As a young choreographer these seasons made an indelible impression on him.
The Russian première of this ballet, performed by the Bolshoi Theatre Ballet Company, will take place on 12th July.
The first night series of performances will be on 12,13,14,16,17,18,19, 20 and 2l July.
Dancing the main roles are Alexander Volchkov, Vladislav Lantratov, Ruslan Skvortsov, David Holberg (Onegin), Ivan Alexeyev, Dmitri Gudanov, Artem Ovcharenko, Semyon Chudin (Lensky), Nina Kaptsova, Evgenia Obraztsova, Olga Smirnova (Tatiana), Kristina Kretova, Anastasia Stashkevich, Anna Tikhomirova, Daria Khokhlova (Olga).
