The Galant Age will Blossom at the Bolshoi Theatre!

06.11.2014

The Bolshoi suggests taking the third journey into the age of the baroque with the unique French ensemble Les Arts Florissants — a trailblazer in the sphere of authentic performance. Since it has been in existence (it was founded in 1979) the ensemble has introduced many unknown works to music lovers and, in particular, it has become an unsurpassed expert in the reconstruction of baroque operas. It takes its name, in fact, from a short baroque opera written by the French composer Marc-Antoine Charpentier.

In 2014 Les Arts Florissants is celebrating on a wide scale the 250th anniversary of the death of Jean-Philippe Rameau, a marvelous composer, the author of numerous “lyrical tragedies”, operas, opera-ballets and theoretical treatises. The performances are taking place in Luxembourg, France, Great Britain and Russia.

The third chapter in the Journey into the age of the Baroque Festival will acquaint Bolshoi audiences with two unique performances, conventionally called ballets which, under the unconventional flag of court gallantry combine all the elements of the fine art of the baroque, including music, singing and dance.
