Esteemed performer of Cavalier Des Grieux part, Plácido Domingo debuted in Manon Lescaut more than half a century ago. Young tenor was lucky to have performed as a singer together with the greatest Renata Tebaldi (he was 27 years old at the time) in the USA, and two years later he performed on Italian stage (Arena di Verona) with Magda Olivero, Queen of Verismo. It is said that prima donna was impressed by the talent of Domingo, and she noted that he represented “highest vocal culture”. Further on in his career, he would always have wonderful singers alongside for the part of Manon – distinguished opera divas Montserrat Caballé, Renata Scotto, Kiri Te Kanawa, Mirella Freni...Domingo has started conducting for Manon Lescaut in 2007, at Washington National Opera. At that time, he had a rich experience as a singer already. He then continued in Valencia, and now he will be conducting in Moscow.
