Ballets Russes: Moscow — Paris16.12.2009
Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes was born of a happy meeting between the cultures of the two countries. Neither in Paris nor in Russia do they forget this and hence the concert at which the present-day curators of the glorious traditions of the past have to demonstrate their gifts in a very complex repertoire inherited from Fokine, Nijinsky, Massine. Added to which this concert represents an attractive prelude to the years of culture exchange which lies ahead — France in Russia (2010) and Russia in France (2011). The 16 December concert is organized, on the eve of the 30th anniversary of its foundation, by AROP (L’Association pour le Rayonnement de l’Opera national de Paris), Les Amis de l’Opera. This non-commercial organization was founded in 1980. Among the privileges enjoyed by its members (of which at the present time there are 2700, including corporate), apart from advanced booking facilities for good seats in the auditorium and self promotion as a sponsor of high art, is the opportunity to feel directly involved in the life of the famous Theatre. Thanks to donations from its members AROP takes part in the financing of Paris Opera projects and, with the aim of boosting the prestige of the Opera, it organizes ground-breaking cultural events. The resulting proceeds go towards financing new productions, tours, publishing activities and exhibitions.
