Last year the Bolshoi Ballet Company took part in the Festival, the Theatre’s 2nd ever appearance in Norway. The Northern Lights is a major arts fixture which regularly, for over 25 years, has been held in the Arctic city of Tromsø, situated some 350 kilometres north of the northern Arctic circle. The concerts the Bolshoi Ballet Company presented at the 2014 Festival were given advance billing as a sensational experience, the most important Festival event and, judging from the reactions of audiences and the press coverage, they fully bore out these expectations. A good beginning to a lasting friendship was established: and this year the Festival organizers decided they wanted to hear the Bolshoi’s Opera Company.
And so in Tromsø on 30 January and l February 2015, The Bolshoi Opera Company, made up of Company soloists, guest artists and Bolshoi Theatre Young Artists Opera Program members, will give concert performances of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro. The première of the Company’s stage version of the opera is to be presented at the Bolshoi Theatre’s New Stage on 24 April 2015. Conducting in both Tromsø, and Moscow, will be Maestro William Lacey who has already demonstrated his reading of the opera with Bolshoi artists in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
