The La Scala program is aimed at a wide range of tastes. We will again be hearing Verdi’s Requiem, a virtually staple – and much looked forward to – item in any La Scala Moscow tour. There will be a concert of works by Italian composers – real box office hits, which, however, are not often performed in this country. Indeed, had it not been for La Scala, Moscow audiences would not have made the acquaintance of Simon Boccanegra. It was in 1974 that La Scala brought this marvelous Verdi opera to Moscow for the first time. And now, again, it forms part of the tour program – though, naturally, in a different production and with new cast.
