In 1956, the Soviet Union and Japan signed a joint declaration on peaceful cooperation - and a year later the Bolshoi Ballet as a plenipotentiary of this cooperation was sent with a friendly visit to Japan. The Soviet press watched out how the tickets were dispensing, and with a feeling of deep satisfaction noted that, as soon as sales were opened, the tickets were snapped up like hot cakes. The tour had a great success, and since then the Bolshoi Ballet has become a welcome guest in this country of passionate balletomanes, number of which had increased dramatically due to the Bolshoi Theatre. The Bolshoi Ballet Company went on huge tours to Japan 17 times (not including the first tour).
This time the performances will be held in five cities - Hiroshima, Tokyo, Otsu, Sendai and Osaka. On June 4, in the famous Tokyo Bunka Kaikan hall an evening performance of the ballet Giselle will accompany the official opening ceremony of the "Russian Seasons", the fest which anticipates the cross year of Russia and Japan, which will begin in 2018.
