Evelina Dobračeva

Biography

Evelina Dobračeva began her musical career studying accordion, conducting and teaching at the College of Music in her hometown of Syzran, graduating with a diploma in 1994. After relocating to Berlin in 2000, she began singing under the tuition of Professor Norma Sharp, Snezana Brzakovic and Professor Julia Varady at the Hanns Eisler Music College in Berlin and participated in masterclasses with Professor Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Professor Thomas Quasthoff and Peter Konvitschny. Her competitive successes include the highest level of scholarship from the German Republic in 2004 and 2006 and prize winner at the Würzburg Mozart Competition in 2006.

Evelina’s concert repertoire is diverse and recently she has sung repertoire such as; Britten The Poet’s Echo in Dresden, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Margarita’s Songs by Lokshin with the Virtuosi Moskvi in Moscow and also with the Orchestra Verdi in Milan conducted by Maestro Rudolf Barshai. Other concert performances have included; Strauss’ Four Last Songs with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, gala concerts with the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, Missa Solemnis with the Capella Cracoviensis and Stravinsky’s Four Russian Songs at De Doelen Hall with the Storioni Trio. Also included in her repertoire is; Ein Deutsches Requiem, Szymanovski’s Hungarian Stabat Mater and Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle.

As a recording artist Evelina features on two discs; Dargomizhsky’s Rusalka recorded with the West Deutsche Rundfunk Orchester and Michail Jurowski and Britten’s War Requiem recorded with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Jaap van Zweden. Evelina’s third disc of Rachmaninov songs, recorded with the pianist Iain Burnside was released recently on Delphian records.

Britten’s War Requiem is repertoire in which Evelina really shines. In concert recently she has performed the piece with the CBSO conducted by Edward Gardner at St Pauls Cathedral to fantastic reviews, commending her vocal timbre and comparing her implacable delivery to that of Galina Vishnevskaya, for whom the part was written, (Tim Ashley, The Guardian). She also recently made her debut at the Musikverein, Vienna with the piece under the baton of Vladimir Jurowksi, and also sang it with the LPO on remembrance Sunday at the Royal Albert Hall.

On stage Evelina has sung roles such as; Micaëla (Carmen), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) and Violetta (La Traviata) with Cologne Opera as well as with the Deutsche Staatsoper on tour to Japan. Other roles include: Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte) at the Verbier Festival and Toulon Opera, as well as Emma (Khovanshina) with the Bayerische Staatsoper.

The soprano recently made her role debut as Odabella (Attila) for Cologne Opera. In the 2014/15 season she sings Tatiana (Eugene Onegin) for the Theater St Gallen and Lisa (Queen of Spades) for the Bolshoi Theatre conducted by Michail Jurowski and directed by Lev Dodin.

In concert recently she has sung, Shostakovich’s Symphony No.14 with the City of London Sinfonia; Verdi’s Requiem, with the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Czech Philharmonic under the baton of Fabio Luisi; Ein Deutsches Requiem with the Odense Symphony Orchestra and Mahler Symphony No.4 with the Stavanger Symphonie Orchester. In recital she made her Wigmore Hall debut last season with a programme of Rachmaninov Songs and forthcoming concerts include; The Bells in Ely Cathedral.
