Part I
The first Moscow showing of the one-act ballet Sagalobeli, created by Yuri Posokhov, the former brilliant Bolshoi principal who now collaborates as choreographer on a permanent basis with our Ballet Company. Sagalobeli was born due to the initiative of Nina Ananiashvili, today artistic director of Georgian State Theatre, and in the past also a former Bolshoi ballet star: Ananiashvili decided it would be of interest to present Georgian folk dance on the academic stage, retaining its spirit, while at the same time giving it classical form.
Part II
Alexei Ratmansky’s stylish, mystical ballet Leah was incorporated into the Bolshoi Theatre repertoire ten years ago: it was based on the story of The Dybbuk, a play well-known at the beginning of the 20th century, and created to original music by Leonard Bernstein, who had written a ballet score based on the play for Jerome Robbins. The Bolshoi’s Leah was the second version, the first version having been created especially for Nina Ananiashvili, the title role creator. At the Bolshoi’s Evening in Memory of Raisa Stepanovna Struchkova, Ananiashvili will appear again as Leah. The part of Khanan, Leah’s lover, will be danced by Bolshoi Ballet principal Alexander Volchkov.

Suite from the ballet Don Quixote (Act III)
Taking part in the Evening will be soloists and dancers from the Bolshoi Theatre Ballet Company, the Tbilisi State Opera, and prima ballerina of Dutch National Ballet Anna Tsygankova.
The Evening was conceived and staged by Nina Ananiashvili.

Raisa Struchkova was not just an outstanding ballerina, she was also a very fine teacher. All her former pupils at the Bolshoi have the most radiant memories of their work and friendship with her. Nina Ananiashvili who too for many years rehearsed under Struchkova’s direction, has decided to honor the memory of her great teacher by a performance at the Bolshoi Theatre, where her own equally brilliant professional career took off, and to present in all its glory the Company of which today she is the leader.
