Bolshoi Theatre Opera, Ballet and Orchestra Season at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London

This is the Bolshoi Opera’s first appearance at The Royal Opera House.
For the Company’s first London season, large-scale works have been chosen which are, however, diametrically opposed in terms of their artistic qualities and characteristics: the 19th and 20th centuries, Mussorgsky and Prokofiev, one of the jewels of the Bolshoi’s repertoire and a recent acquisition.
The operas: the legendary Boris Godunov, the production has been specially updated for the tour, and the avant-garde The Fiery Angel which appeared in the repertory a couple of years ago.

The Bolshoi Ballet Company has toured in England more than in any other European country.
It was following the first Bolshoi Ballet season at Covent Garden in 1956 that the Company acquired international fame and in the West the very name Bolshoi Ballet became synonymous with dance excellence.
This was the Company’s first large-scale foreign tour: it was hugely successful and became a Russian ballet legend. To mark the 50th anniversary of its celebrated first London season, the Company will be performing seven ballets for London audiences: from Petipa and Gorsky — via Balanchine — to Posokhov and Ratmansky.
