The Bolshoi Ballet Company began its extended tour of the cities of Great Britain on 28 March, the 230th anniversary of the foundation of the Bolshoi Theatre (The Theatre’s foundation date is considered to be 1776, when Catherine II passed a decree, graciously permitting Prince Pyotr Urusov to set up a theatre troupe in Moscow out of which, the Company, as we know it today, eventually developed).
The tour itinerary included four cities — Birmingham (Hippodrome), Manchester (The Lowry Arts and Entertainment Complex Lyric Theatre), Nottingham (Royal Concert Hall) and Southampton (Mayflower).
The tour program: Spartacus, Swan Lake, Giselle (Vladimir Vasiliev version), Gala Concert.
