Biography
Sergey Skorohodov began his operatic career in 2007, when he joined the the Mariinsky Theatre and nearly immediately became a leading soloist of this theatre.Under the baton of Maestro Valery Gergiev, Sergey has performed in various theatres and concert halls such as Festspielhaus Baden Baden, the Royal Opera in Stockholm, Metropolitan Opera House in New York, Washington National Opera, Welsh National Opera and others.
After his 2007 debut at the Bolshoi theatre as Grigoriy in Boris Godunov he frequently performed there and subsequently sang this part at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich on various occasions.
The young tenor worked together with such great conductors as: Valery Gergiev, Riccardo Muti, Yuri Temirkanov, Vladimir Jurowski, Edo de Waart, Placido Domingo, Kirill Petrenko, Kent Nagano, etc. His critically highly acclaimed recent successes include the performance of the title role in Lohengrin, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Cavaradossi in Tosca, Ivan in The Nose, Erik in Der fliegende Holländer, Ismaele in Nabucco, Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos, Alfredo in La Traviata at the Mariinsky Theatre, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Valencia Palau de la Musica, Chicago Lyric Opera, Glynderbourne Festival and many others.
His recent successes include Sinowij in a new production of Lady Macbeth of Mzensk at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich as well as Verdi’s Requiem at the Philharmonie in Munich, Ariadne auf Naxos with Vladimir Jurowski in Moscow. He received great critical acclaim also for his performances as Vaudemont in Iolanta at the Bolshoi Theatre and at the Staatstheater Mannheim as well as for his performances in the title role in Lohengrin in Essen. In March 2019 he finally made his debut at Teatro alla Scala as Andrey in a new production of Khovanshchina, followed by another fulminant debut as Tannhäuser at the Mariinsky Theatre. His role debut as Calaf in Turandot at the Toronto Opera, was another great success in 2019. The year 2020 began with successful performances as Erik in Der fliegende Holländer at the MET, and ended with many new roles at the Mariinsky such as Walther von Stolzing in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.
Some upcoming engagements include performances a new production of Madame Butterfly at the Teatro Maggio Musicale in Firenze, a new production of Khovanshchina at the Opera Bastille in Paris and many more performances at the Mariinsky Theatre.
