Mikhail Gubsky

Biography

Born in Magnitogorsk, Russia. Graduated from Samara Technical University (1993) and Samara Academia of Arts (1997; prof. Galina Sorokina).
From 1994, he was a soloist of the Samara Opera Theatre, from 1997, — soloist of the Moscow’s Novaya Opera Company (Moscow).
Since 2001, he has also been appearing at the Bolshoi Theatre.

Tours

He has toured in USA, Canada, Japan, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Finland, Slovenia and Poland.
In 2003, he took part in a Russian National Orchestra performance of J.S. Bach’s Mass in B minor (conductor Kent Nagano) at Moscow’s International House of Music. In 2004, he sang the role of The Hussar in a performance of Mavra at the Igor Stravinsky Festival in Arnhem (The Netherlands) and took part in a performance of Rakhmaninov’s The Bells at the Carnegie Hall (conductor James Conlon). In 2008, he sang Shuisky (Boris Godunov) at the Maryinsky Theatre in Saint-Petersburg. In 2009, he performed the title role in Prokofiev’s Semyon Kotko in Cagliari (Teatro Lirico di Cagliari and Maryinsky Theatre co-production).

In the season 2015/16 he performed the title role (Tristan und Isolde) at Regensburg Theatre and appeared as Hermann (The Queen of Spades) at Hungarian State Opera. 
Among his recent angagements: Sergei in The Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk (Ópera Nacional de Chile, Santiago) and Canio in Pagliacci (The Norwegian National Opera, Oslo).

Since 2004, he has been organizer and artistic director of the From Heart to Heart Music Festival, which is held under the patronage of the Samara region local government.
In 2007-11, he was artistic director of the Samara Theatre of Opera and Ballet.
