Biography
Operalia 2014 awarded, Mariangela makes her debut at the Paris Opera with La Bohème (Musetta) and debuts with great success of critics and public in the role of Teresa in Berlioz’s Benvenuto Cellini in a production signed by the film director Terry Gilliam and the conduction of Sir Mark Elder at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam (2015).She sings in theatres all over the world: San Carlo di Napoli, Comunale di Bologna, Opera di Roma, Massimo di Palermo, Regio di Torino, Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Opéra in Paris, Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, Teatro Real in Madrid, Royal Opera of Muscat, Sydney Opera House, Opera di Montecarlo, Salzburg Festival.
At the Bolshoi Theatre she debuted as Mimi (La Bohème) in June 2019.
She has worked with internationally renowned conductors including Leonardo Garcia Alarcon, Marc Albrecht, Sir Mark Elder, Asher Fish, Francesco Lanzillotta, Stefano Montanari, Michele Mariotti, Renato Palumbo, Daniel Oren, Alberto Zedda; Graham Vick, Damiano Michieletto, Jonathan Miller, David Mc Vicar, Terry Gilliam.
Her repertoire includes: Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Contessa and Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Violetta (Traviata), Mimì and Musetta (La Bohème), Liu (Turandot), Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi), Micaela (Carmen), Adina (L’Elisir d’amore), Corinna (Il viaggio a Reims).
For Dynamic, Mariangela is Vivetta in L’Arlesiana by Francesco Cilea: the first CD, DVD and Blu-Ray of the opera. She even performed in the Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater in Jerusalem (broadcast on TV by Rai), and she was an applauded Gilda in Rigoletto on stage at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, broadcasted on TV and live streaming.
Mariangela Sicilia was born in Cosenza, where she studied piano and graduated in singing at the conservatory “S. Giacomantonio”. She then specializes with Carmela Remigio, Leo Magiera and later with Fernando Cordeiro Opa.
She studied acting and diction, treading the stage also as a prose actress. She was a student of the Italian Opera School at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna (2009/2010), the Mozart Academy of Aix en Provence (2011), and the Rossini Academy in Pesaro (2012).
In 2014 in Los Angeles she received the third prize in the Operalia competition organized by Maestro Placido Domingo.
