Шанул Шарма

Biography

Born in India, Shanul studied Information Technology in Australia before starting out as lead vocalist in Heavy-Metal bands, touring and releasing three original studio albums. His exploration of the classical singing technique led him, in late 2012 to privately commence opera studies in Melbourne, Australia.

Shanul’s opera debut came in 2014 as Don Ramiro in Rossini’s La Cenerentola (Opera Australia School’s Tour) and since then he has also sung the title role in Massenet’s Werther (2014, Australia), Florville in Rossini’s Il Signor Bruschino (2016, Australia), Ernesto in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale (2017, Italy), Il Conte d’Almaviva in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, (2018, Teatro del Giglio, Lucca), Il Conte di Libenskof in Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims, (2018, Rossini Opera Festival, Pesaro & 2019 Opera Australia, Melbourne), Der Student in Reimann’s Die Gespenstersonate (2019, Opera Australia, Sydney) and as the Tenor Soloist in Mendelssohn’s oratorio Elijah (2016, Australia) and Rossini’s Stabat Mater (LaVerdi, Milan, 2018).

In high demand for gala concerts and recitals Shanul has regularly been a featured artist at several high profile events such as the ‘Llangollen Festival’ in Wales, ‘Opera in the Domain’, ‘Opera in the Alps’, ‘Opera in the Market’, ‘Opera by the Lakes’ (2016, ’17, ’18 & ’19) and also represented the Rossini Opera Festival for a special recital at Norwegian National Opera and Ballet in Oslo (2018).

In 2019 Shanul made his Bolshoi Theatre debut as Conte di Libenskof in Rossini’s Il Viaggio a Reims.

Winner of the 2017 Rossini International award in Pesaro (Italy) Shanul also holds an MA in Advanced Vocal Studies from the Wales International Academy of Voice, UK.
