Biography

Anna Maria Chiuri graduated at Boito Conservatory of Parma and then she perfected her technique with Maestro Franco Corelli. One of the most requested and appreciated mezzo-sopranos in the Italian, German and French repertoire, she is a regular guest in the major Italian and European opera houses.

Her repertoire is very vast and includes: Fricka in Rheingold and Die Walküre at the Teatro Massimo of Palermo with the direction of Graham Vick; Eboli in Don Carlo at Teatro Regio in Turin under the conduction of Gianandrea Noseda and directed by Hugo De Ana, at Teatro alla Scala in Milan under the baton of Fabio Luisi and Klythämestra in Elektra under the conduction of Gustav Kuhn, Herodias in Salome conducted by Nikša Bareza, both under the direction of Manfred Schweigkofler, in the theaters of Bolzano, Modena, Ferrara and Piacenza; Amneris in Aida under the direction of Paolo Arrivabeni and Ulrica in Un ballo in maschera under the baton of Massimo Zanetti at the Opera Royal de Wallonie; Falstaff in concert form in Tel Aviv under the conduction of Zubin Mehta; Azucena in Il trovatore at Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Annina in Der Rosenkavalier at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino conducted by Zubin Mehta and directed by Eike Gramss, Adriana Lecouvreur at Teatro Regio in Turin, La forza del destino at Opera Sferisterio Macerata, Cassandra by V. Gnecchi at Teatro Bellini of Catania under the baton of Donato Renzetti.

She performed in Puccini’s Il trittico at La Scala in Milan under the conduction of Riccardo Chailly, sang Herodias in the new production of Salome at the Salzburger Festspiele under the baton of Franz Welser-Möst, Ulrica in Un ballo in maschera at NCPA in Beijing, Barbara in Violanta al Teatro Regio di Torino, Puccini’s Il trittico at Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. Among her next commitments she will sing Una Donna in Intolleranza 1960 at Salzburger Festspiele, Aida at Arena di Verona, Don Carlo at New National Theater in Tokyo, La favorita in Piacenza and Parma, Un ballo in maschera at Teatro La Scala of Milano, Lohengrin (Ortrud) at Teatro Comunale of Bologna.

She performed Beethoven’s IX Symphony at the Lincoln Center in New York at the prestigious summer festival Mostly Mozart and at Teatro Regio in Turin in Requiem Mass by Verdi at the Rudolfinum in Prague and in Washington, in Te Deum by Bruckner at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino under the conduction of Zubin Mehta, in Ein Sommernachtstraum by Mendelssohn at Teatro Regio in Parma under the baton of Jurij Temirkanov, in Les Troyens by Berlioz at Teatro Bellini in Catania, in Requiem by Mozart in Florence under the conduction of Zubin Mehta.

Her discography includes on CD the contemporary opera Pasqua Fiorentina by I. Capitanio (Bongiovanni), Messa in sol by V. Bellini, Pezzi Sacri by G.B. Sammartini and L’abbé Agathon by A. Pärt,
Oratorio de Noël by C. Saint-Saëns and on DVD the operas Un ballo in maschera with the conduction of Riccardo Chailly, live from the Opera di Lipsia, Il trittico by Puccini live from Teatro alla Scala in Milan for Rai Trade, again under the baton of Riccardo Chailly, Il Prigioniero, in the role of La Madre, with Danish National Symphony Orchestra.
