Михаил Пирогов

Biography

Вorn in Dalakhai (Republic of Buryatia).
After graduating from the Ulan-Ude Tchaikovsky Music College in 2003, he studied at the St Petersburg State Conservatory (class of Yury Marusin).

He joined the Buryat Opera and Ballet Theatre as soloist in 2010, from 2011-2014 he appeared with the Saratov Opera and Ballet Theatre, and from 2014-2018 returned to the Buryat Opera, performing the leading roles.

Since December 2019 Mikhail Pirogov has been a soloist with the Hvorostovsky Krasnoyarsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre. In 2021 he became an ensemble member of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre (NOVAT).

He also performed at the Mariinsky Theatre, St Petersburg and Novaya Opera Theatre, Moscow.

Mikhail Pirogov is the recipient of numerous awards and prizes, including the Golden Mask Russian National Theatre Prize-2022 for the part of Solovei Budimirovich in Borodin’s The Bogatyrs (production of the Krasnoyarsk Opera), Republic of Buryatia State Award (2019), Honoured Artist of the Republic of Buryatia (2018) as well as special prizes at the International Vocal Competition of The Elena Obraztsova Foundation «José Carreras Grand Prix» (2018), Grand Prix at the Kim Bazarsadayev International Vocal Competition in Ulan-Ude (2017), Grand Prix at the Pyotr Slovtsov International Competition of Young Opera Singers in Krasnoyarsk (2015) and Dugarzhap Dashiev Vocal Competition in Ulan-Ude (2009), and many others.
