Biography
Jordi Bernàcer was born in 1976 in Alcoi (Spain).He began studying music at the age of six. He graduated in flute at the Valencia Conservatory and in Conducting at the Vienna Conservatory with the much-coveted honors degree under the guidance of Georg Mark and Reinhard Schwarz.
He was assistant to Riccardo Chailly, Sir Andrew Davis, Valery Gergiev, Nicola Luisotti, Zubin Mehta, Georges Prêtre and in particular, to Maestro Lorin Maazel who nominated him Associate Conductor at the Castleton Festival in 2007.
In 2015 was appointed Resident Conductor at the San Francisco Opera, holding the position for three seasons.
After his debut in the Palau de les Arts in Valencia with Massenet’s Manon in 2010 he regularly conducts in some prestigious theaters, including the Teatro Real in Madrid, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Semperoper in Dresden, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, Arena di Verona, Los Angeles Opera, San Francisco Opera, Mariinski Theater in St. Petersburg, Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Royal Opera House Muscat.
He is present in important festivals like Abu Dhabi Classic, La Coruña, Peralada, Santander, Valle d’Itria.
Active in the symphonic repertoire, he is guest of the main Spanish orchestras including Orquesta Nacional de España, Sinfónica de la RTVE, Nacional de Catalunya, Sinfónica de Tenerife – of the Baden-Baden Philharmonie, Kammerorchester Berlin, Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini di Parma, National Symphony of Estonia, Lithuanian State Symphony, Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra, Szeged Symphony, Savaria Symphony, Prague Chamber Orchestra.
Since 2012 he has consolidated the partnership with Plácido Domingo conducting him in several concerts and opera productions.
He has recorded for Warner Classics. RAI recorded Carmina Burana in video with the choreography of Shen Wei at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples.
