Biography
Was born in Yerevan (Armenia). In 1991 he graduated from the Music Theatre Department at the Moscow State Academy of Theatre Arts (Professor V. Kurochkin’s class). In 1990-1991 he worked as professor of the department of opera singing and directing at the Yerevan State Conservatoire.In 1991 he joined the Perm State Opera and Ballet Theatre named after P. Tchaikovsky as a stage-director, then chief director. In 2001-2010, the Head Director of Perm Opera House.
In 2003 the International Festival Djagilev Seasons: Perm-Petersburg-Paris was created based on his initiative.
In 2010 he became the Intendant and Artistic Director of the Moscow State Opera and Ballet Theatre for Children and Young Audience named after Natalia Sats.
He has been the President of the Association of the Music Theatres of Russia (since 2014); a member of the Opera Europa Board (2015-2017, 2018-2020).
The professor of the Music Theatre Department at the Moscow State University of Theatre Arts (GITIS).
Georgiy Isaakyan staged over 120 productions in Russia and abroad.
He has collaborated with the Irish National Opera (Dublin), the Latvian National Opera (Riga), Sakai City Opera (Osaka, Japan), the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus (Minsk), the Yerevan State Opera and Ballet Theatre among others.
His opera productions include:
The Petty Demon by A. Zhurbin (world premiere of the opera at the Pokrovsky Chamber Musical Theatre, 2015).
One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich by A. Tchaikovsky (Bolshoi Theatre, Chamber Stage, 2018; stage director and co-author of the libretto).
