Biography

Yuri Gorodetski was born in Mogilev, Belarus. In 2002, he completed his studies in choral conducting at the Mogilev State Music College. In 2007, he graduated from the Belarusian State Academy of Music.

Laureate of the grand prize of the Special Fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus for Support of the Talented Youth (2006, 2008).

In 2008-09, he went on to study with Raina Kabaivanska at the Vecchi Tonelli Institute in Modena and, in 2009-10, with José van Dam at the Chapelle Musical Reine Elisabeth in Belgium. He has participated in master classes with Dalton Baldwin and Peter Schreier.

In 2012-14, Yuri was a member of the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program at the Washington National Opera. During the apprenticeship his roles with the company included Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Edmondo (Manon Lescaut), The Shepherd and The Young Sailor (Tristan und Isolde) under the baton of Philippe Auguin.

In 2006 Yuri Gorodetski joined the Opera Company of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus.

Yuri Gorodetsky’s highlights include the roles of Count Errico in Haydn`s La vera constanza (conductor Jesús Lopez Cobos, 2012) and Jaquino in Beethoven`s Fidelio (conductor Paolo Arrivabeni, 2014) with the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège, Belgium.

In 2012 Yuri made his debut at the Bolshoi Theatre as Tamino in Mozart`s Die Zauberflöte (conductor Christopher Moulds). He performed also the roles of Ferrando in Mozart`s Così fan tutte (conductor Stefano Montanari), Kai and The Troll in Banevich`s The Story of Kai and Gerda (conductor Anton Grishanin).
