Адомас Яцовскис

Biography

In 1978–93 Jacovskis worked as an Art Director of The Lithuanian Youth Theatre.
Since 1989 is a Professor of stagecraft in the Lithuanian State Art Academy.

Adomas Jacovskis has created stageworks for more than 80 dramas, operas and ballets both in Lithuanian and in foreign theatres including such as The Lithuanian National Drama Theatre, The Lithuanian Youth Theatre, The Vilnius Small Drama Theatre, LIFE Festival, The Lithuanian Opera House, The Kaunas Drama Theatre, The Riga National Opera House, The Modern Theatre (Wroclaw, Poland), The Sovremennik Theatre, The Vakhangov Theatre, Rep Theatre (Scotland), The National Theatre (Reykjavik, Iceland), The Gothenburg Theatre (Sweden), the National Ballet of the Netherlands, The Central Ballet of China and etc.

His first work in cooperation with Rimas Tuminas was Kanovichius’s play Smile at us, O Lord! (1994), cooperation continued within the productions of Lermontov’s Masquerade, We Play Schiller! based on play by Friedrich Schiller, Chekhov’s Three Sisters and Uncle Vanya, Becketts Waiting for Godot, Gogol’s The Inspector General, Griboedov’s The Woes of Wit. In The Vakhangov Theatre worked on such plays as Uncle Vanya by Chekhov, Masquerade by Lermontov, The Wind in the Poplars by Gerald Sibleyras, Marina, Eugene Onegin by Alexander Pushkin, Smile at us, O Lord! by Grigorijus Kanovicius, Minetti by Thomas Bernhard, Oedipus the King by Sophocles.

He debuted as a designer at the Bolshoi Theatre with Katerina Izmailova by Dmitri Shostakovich in 2016 (conductor: Tugan Sokhiev, director: Rimas Tuminas).

In 2017 he has designed sets for one-act operas Oedipus Rex by Igor Stravinsky and Bluebeard's Castle by Béla Bartók for the Stanislavski and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre.

Adomas Jacovskis also works actively as a painter and participated in many national and international exhibitions. Laureate of the national and international awards for his stageworks.
