Biography
Born in Treviso, he graduated from the Conservatoire Benedetto Marcello in Venice as a singer, under the guidance of Maestro Leone Magiera. In 1996 he debuted in La bohème at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice.He took part in the opening of the 1997-98 season at the Teatro alla Scala, singing in Macbeth under Maestro Riccardo Muti’s conduction. He later returned there to perform in Verdi’s Messa di Requiem, again with Maestro Riccardo Muti. During the same season he sang in the opening productions at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice and the Teatro Comunale in Bologna. In 1998 he debuted in two important Verdi roles: Gabriele Adorno in Simon Boccanegra at Teatro Comunale of Bologna and the title in Don Carlo, again in Bologna and at the Teatro Regio of Parma.
He debuted in Simon Boccanegra in Berlin in 1999, under Maestro Claudio Abbado’s baton. In the same year he debuted at the Vienna Staatsoper in Linda di Chamounix, and at the Chicago Lyric Opera in I Capuleti e i Montecchi. In 2009 he returned to the Teatro Alla Scala in I due Foscari and sang in Simon Boccanegra in Zürich, Berlin and Vienna.
Recently he sang in Simon Boccanegra in Berlin, Milan, Barcelona and Madrid, in Adriana Lecouvreur in Florence, in Verdi’s Messa di Requiem on tour to Buenos Aires with Teatro alla Scala. He sang in Attila in Milan, in China, and in concert with Maestro Zubin Mehta and the Orchestra of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Mumbay; debuted in I masnadieri at the Zürich Opera House and in Norma in Las Palmas and in Rome. During Verdi celebrations in 2013 he had a great success in Oberto, Conte di San Bonifacio at the Teatro alla Scala, in Aida at the Arena di Verona and in Don Carlo, again in Milan and Zürich. He sang in Verdi's Messa da Requiem conducted by Gianandrea Noseda in a Tournee at the Teatro Regio in Turin and at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, as well as in a new production of Tosca, conducted by Daniel Barenboim, at the Berlin State Opera. Regular guest at the Teatro alla Scala, he returned there for Simon Boccanegra and Aida conducted by Zubin Mehta.
