Biography
Italian costume designer Carla Teti studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome.
Among others she worked with directors such as Daniele Abbado, Damiano Michieletto, Andrei Konchalovski.
She designed costumes for the most important opera houses, worthwhile mentioning are productions such as Don Carlo for Vienna State Opera, Boris Godunov in Turin, Ermione for the Rossini Festival in Pesaro, Madama Butterfly and A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Bari and Reggio Emilia, Samson et Dalila for Opéra de Paris, Il Trittico for Royal Danish Opera and Theater an der Wien, Madama Butterfly in Turin, Lucia di Lammermoor in Zürich, Idomeneo and Rossini’s Otello for Theater an der Wien, Roméo et Juliette and The Rake’s Progress for Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Un ballo in maschera for Teatro La Scala in Milan, La bohème and Falstaff for Salzburg Festival and revived at Teatro La Scala, Die Zauberflöte for Teatro La Fenice and Teatro del Maggio Musicale in Florence, Il trovatore for Wiener Staatsoper, Il viaggio a Reims for Dutch National Opera, Cavalleria rusticana/ I Pagliacci (which has been awarded Best Opera Production at the Laurence Olivier Awards), Guillaume Tell at Royal Opera House in London and again at Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the world première of Aquagranda, music by Filippo Perocco (Premio Abbiati).
In theatre she worked regularly with the theatre group I Fratellini. She also collaborated in 2006 with the director Andrei Konchalowsky for King Lear (Warsaw’s Freedom Theatre). In 2014 she has created the costumes for Divinas Palabras, and in 2016 Dreigroschenoper, both productions at Piccolo Teatro di Milano collaborating with director Damiano Michieletto.
In 2011 she won the Premio Abbiati and the prestigious Opera Award for “Best Costume Designer”.
In 2017 she won the International Opera Award, Oscar della lirica as “Best Costume Designer”.
2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons include new productions such as Damnation de Faust (Premio Abbiati for Best Production 2017) at Teatro dell’opera di Roma and Die Lustige Witwe at Teatro La Fenice (director Damiano Michieletto), I Pagliacci at Grand Theatre de Genève (director Serena Sinigaglia), Semele at Komische Oper Berlin (director Barrie Kosky) and Médée by Luigi Cherubini at Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin (director Andrea Breth).
