Biography

Elmo Tiisvald started his music studies at Tallinn Music Secondary School in the violin class of Tiiu Peäske. He graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music choral conducting class of Ants Üleoja in 1993 and from the orchestra conducting classes of Paul Mägi and Roman Matsov in 2003. Elmo Tiisvald has taken conducting classes with John Eliot Gardiner and Helmuth Rilling at the Stuttgard Bach-Acadmie in Germany, furthermore he has participated in sevaral masterclasses led by Jorma Panula, Neeme Järvi and Sylvain Cambreling.

In 1992–95 Elmo Tiisvald was employed by the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir as a singer, chorus master and conductor. From 1995 Elmo Tiisvald has been the assistant conductor of the Estonian National Opera, in 1998–2009 he was the chief chorus master and holds the post again since 2013. In this period he has prepared more than 30 oratorios and about 40 operas, various operettas and musicals.

Elmo Tiisvald has worked with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Pärnu City Ochestra, Tallinn Baroque Orchestra, Estonian Phiharmonic Chamber Choir, Mixed Choir of Estonian Radio, Estonian National Male Choir, Oratorio Choir and the chorus of the Estonian National Opera. He has conducted operas, ballets and musicals in the Estonian National Opera and at several festivals in Estonia, Russia and Germany.
