Biography
The young light-lyric tenor Xabier Anduaga was born in San Sebastian, Spain in 1995. Already in his childhood, he sang in choirs and acted as soloist in different operatic and sacred music performances. He studied at the Musikene College of Music. Currently, he follows suggestions by Maciej Pikulski and Elena Barbé and he has also received Masterclasses with Ernesto Palacio, Alberto Zedda, Ana Luisa Chova and Juan Diego Flórez.In 2016 he was selected to be part of the Accademia Rossiniana with Alberto Zedda, where he made his international opera debut as Cavalier Belfiore from the opera Il Viaggio a Reims.
In the 2016/17 season, Xabier made his debut as Ramiro (La Cenerentola) at ABAO in Bilbao and at Teatro Rossini in Pesaro. He sang a Rossini Gala at the Limoges Opera Theatre, Cavalier Belfiore (Il Viaggio a Reims) at the Teatro Filarmonico di Verona and Adraste (Le Siège de Corinthe) at Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro.
His recognition took place at the Tenor Francisco Viñas singing competition, where he received five awards and he was remarkably acclaimed by the public and critics.
The recent seasons brought Xabier to the Théâtre des Champs Elysées with Roberto Abbado as Lord Arturo (Lucia di Lammermoor). He made his debut as Conte d’Almaviva (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) in Ancona and at the Mikhailovsky theatre of St. Petersburg and he sang Ramiro (La Cenerentola) at AGAO in Spain, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle at the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Fenton (Falstaff) with the BFO and Ivan Fischer in Müpa Budapest, Lindoro (L’italiana in Algeri) at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Cavalier Belfiore (Il Viaggio a Reims) at the Musikverein in Vienna.
Most recently, he appeared as Ernesto (Ricciardo e Zoraide) at Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, as Leicester (Il Castello di Kenilworth) and Gennaro (Lucrezia Borgia) at Donizetti Opera Festival under the baton of Riccardo Frizza, as Don Ramiro (La Cenerentola) at Teatro Verdi in Padua and at Hamburgische Staatsoper, as Conte d’Almaviva (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) at Opéra National de Paris, at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, at Teatro Regio di Parma and at Opéra de Rouen, as Nemorino in L’Elisir d’amore at Teatro Principal in Palma de Mallorca, as Lindoro (L’italiana in Algeri) at Teatro Regio di Torino, as Arturo in Lucia di Lammermoor at Palau de les Arts in Valencia. Additionally he performed in Paris, where he appeared in recital for Les Grandes Voix - Les Grandes Solistes with Maciej Pikulski and he sang a Bel Canto Gala at the Philarmonie, and he sang a solo recital at the New Town Hall in Prague.
In July 2019 he was named First Prize winner of the Operalia Singing Competition.
