Radu Poklitaru

Biography

Born in Chișinău to a family of ballet dancers, Radu Poklitaru is acclaimed as one of the leading choreographers today.
In 1991 graduated from the Perm State Choreographic College. In 1999 graduated from the Belarusian State Academy of Music as a ballet master (studied under professor Valentin Elizariev, Merited Artist of the USSR).
In 1991-2001 was a company dancer of the National Opera and Ballet of Belarus.In 2001-2002 was the principal ballet master of the Moldova National Opera.

In 2006 Radu Poklitaru established his own KYIV MODERN BALLET Theatre, encouraged and sponsored by a Ukrainian philantropist Vladimir Filippov. There he created the following ballets:

In 2012-2013 Poklitaru was an artistic director of the Kiev Municipal Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre for Children and Youth.

In 2014 choreographed the Olympic opening and closing ceremonies in Sochi. Opening ceremony included a mini-ballet The First Ball of Natasha Rostova to the music of various composers, featuring ex- and current members of the Bolshoi ballet company: Svetlana Zakharova, Vladimir Vasiliev, Ivan Vasiliev and Alexander Petukhov.

Poklitaru’s portfolio includes more than 30 full-length and one-act ballets staged in various European houses, such as the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, Russian Chamber Ballet ‘Moscow’, the Stanislavsky Music Theatre, Moldova National Opera, Latvian National Opera, Belarus National Opera and National Opera of Ukraine.
