Biography

Pilar Álvarez is a disciple of Margarita Terragno and a collaborator in the creation of the Method that bears her name. She began her artistic career at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

She studied Ballet with Karemia Moreno; Contemporary Dance with Ana María Stekelman, Jorge Gale, Choreographic Composition at the General San Martín Theater Workshop in Buenos Aires and Feldenkrais Method at the Fendelkraiszentrum- Chava Shelhav. Claudio Hoffmann, after graduating as Master of Argentine Folk Dance from the School of Dance José Neglia, directed by Norberto Guichenduc, he began his artistic career at the age of 18.


Both, Pilar Álvarez and Claudio Hoffmann, were co-founding dancers of the Tangokinesis Company, directed by Ana María Stekelman, with whom they investigated the fusion of tango and contemporary dance.

They were part of the cast of the show Tango Pasión for seven years, performing alongside the Sexteto Mayor in the most prestigious theatres in the world since its premiere on Broadway.

In 2005, together with Marijó Álvarez, they created the choreography of the documentary film "Tango: The Spirit of Argentina", produced for the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), which premiered in New York and was presented in all public television stations of the U.S.

As a soloist couple, Claudio and Pilar have danced in international Galas like The Nigth of the Stars, at the Helsinki National Opera; the Gala des Etoiles du XXI Siecle, at the Teatre Champs Elysses in Paris; Stars of the 21st Century, at Toronto Center of Arts, and at Lincoln Center (New York).

They also performed in concert with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, the Montevideo Symphony Orchestra, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong with the ORQUESTANGO program with Daniel Binelli (bandoneon) and Polly Ferman (piano).

In 1995, Pilar Álvarez and Claudio Hoffmann formed their own show producer: Tango Express. Later in 1998, they founded the TANGO METROPOLIS DANCE COMPANY, with Daniel Binelli as Musical Director, creating and choreographing with Marijó Álvarez, the shows: "TANGO METROPOLIS", "TANGO & NIGHT", "LORCA TANGO", "BUENOS AIRES TANGO SUITE” performing and "COMPLICIDAD: Tango & Flamenco", for which they received "El abrazo" prize at the 26th Tango Festival of Granada in 2014. In 2015 they were invited by the Chekhov International Theatre Festival and invited to participate in the 25th Anniversary of the Festival in 2017.
