Biography

After graduating from the Gorky Theatre School in 1972, Alexander Ermakov was invited to join the company of the Gorky Comedy Theatre and quickly distinguished himself in substantial stage roles. Among his first dramatic stage roles were Dyula in Wake up and Sing! by I. Dyyrvash, Christopher Wren in the The Mousetrap by A. Christie, the Commander in the play Then in Seville by S. Alyoshin and others. He forged his reputation playing versatile roles.

In 1974 he started working at the Kharkov Young Spectator's Theatre, where he performed a number of leading roles from the classical and contemporary repertoire: Bekpergen (The Brandenburg Gate by M. Svetlov), Kochkaryov (Marriage by N. Gogol), Vaska Pepel (The Lower Depths by M. Gorky), Nikolai Ostrovsky (Letters to a Friend by A. Lihanov and A. Shura), Prince and Swineherd (Swineherd by H. C. Andersen), Ivan (Ivan, the Peasant’s Son by V. Sudarushkin) and others.

In the Ostrovsky Moscow Regional Drama Theatre the artist successfully performed the role of Apollon Murzavetsky (Wolves and Sheep by A. Ostrovsky) and Ivan (Stories From a Village by V. Shukshin).

From 1981 to 1995 Alexander Ermakov worked at the Moscow Pushkin Drama Theatre. Among his greatest achievements were the roles of Karl Moor (The Robbers by F. Schiller), Fedor (Motives by M. Varfolomeev), Liputin (Demons by F. Dostoyevsky), Oberon, the fairy king (A Midsummer Night's Dream by W. Shakespeare), Bolvio (The Triumph of Love by P. de Marivaux), Goran (Eric XIV by A. Strindberg), Lyapkin Tyapkin (The Government Inspector by N. Gogol), Ivanov (Ivanov's Family by A. Platonov), Fiddler (Desire Under the Elms by E. O'Neill) and many others. Alexander Ermakov was awarded the diploma of the Ministry of Culture of Russia for his performance in the Motives (Best Actor).

In 1995 Alexander Ermakov was invited to join the Maly Theatre’s company.

He also appeared in numerous TV series: Three Against All, Maroseika, 12, At the Corner, at the Patriarch's Ponds- 2, Where the Homeland Begins, Life and Destiny, Anna Karenina, Godunov and many others, as well as feature films The Demidovs, Stalin's Wife, White Tiger, Lev Yashin, Odessa Steamer, Survivor, etc.
