If at Christmas and New Year ballet lovers traditionally applaud The Nutcracker, then on the Old New Year the Bolshoi is going to please music lovers: on the 13th of January, the first gala concert of 2022 will be held, and its name speaks for itself “Plácido Domingo invites…”. Together with the renowned master, outstanding musicians, iconic figures of the modern opera world, will perform on the Historic Stage.

On the 23rd of January 2022, it will be a hundred and ten years since the birth of Boris Pokrovsky (1912–2009). Having started at Christmas, the festival commemorating Pokrovsky, an outstanding opera director and teacher, theorist and practitioner, the main director of the Bolshoi (1952, 1955, 1956-63, 1970-82) and the founder of the Chamber Musical Theatre, which became a part of the Bolshoi as its Chamber Stage four years ago, will continue until almost the end of January.

The Tale of Tsar Saltan (19:00). Debuts
Anastasia Shchegoleva will play the role of Tsaritsa Militrisa for the first time. Albina Latipova makes her first appearance asthe Swan-Princess.

Promotion in the Bolshoi Ballet
Elizaveta Kokoreva is promoted from the Soloist to the First Soloist.

Nutcracker. Debut in the Leading Part
Dmitry Smilevsky makes his first appearance as the Nutcracker-Prince.

Cherevichki. Debut
Mikhail Yanenko will sing the part of Vakula for the first time.

The Story of Kai and Gerda (19:00). Debuts in the leading parts
Ksenia Dudnikova makes her first appearance as The Snow Queen. Andrei Potaturin is going to perform the role of Lamplighter.

La Bohème. Debuts
Igor Golovatenko will play the role of Marcello in Jean-Romain Vesperini's production for the first time. Daniil Akimov takes on the role of Colline.

The Little Sweep. Debut
Olga Deineka-Boston makes her first appearance as Miss Baggott.

Eugene Onegin. Debuts
Anna Shapovalova will sing Tatiana at the Bolshoi for the first time (15 & 17 December). Yulia Mazurova will perform the part of Olga (16 & 18 December).

Pavel Petrov makes his house debut with Bolshoi Theatre as Lensky. His performances will take place on 15, 17 & 19 December.

Ariodante. Debuts
Anna Aglatova will give her first performances as Ginevra, Guzel Sharipova as Dalinda (9 & 11 December). 

Die Zauberflöte. Guest performer
Yaroslav Abaimov makes his Bolshoi debut as Tamino.

Luigi De Donato will make his Bolshoi Theatre’s debut as King of Scotland (8 & 10 December. José Coca Loza will play the same role on 9, 11 & 12 December. The role of Polinesso is shared by Yuriy Minenko (8, 10 & 12 December) and Paul-Antoine Bénos-Djian(9 & 11 December).

Katerina Izmailova. Debuts
Ilya Selivanov (1, 3 & 5 December) and Alexander Chernov (2 & 4 December) make their first appearances in the role of the Zinovy Borisovich.

Булгаков и Большой балет
The Bolshoi Theatre is presenting the world premiere of the ballet “Master and Margarita”, a performance created by the same team which realised the ballet “Petrushka” three years ago. They are a Slovenian choreographer of Romanian origin, manager of the ballet troupe of the Slovene National Theatre, Edward Clug, set designer Marco Japelj and costume designer Leo Kulaš. Joining the team are composer Milko Lazar and lighting designer Tomaž Premzl, who are also Clug’s old “brothers-in-arms”. 

Oksana Dyka will perform the title part for the first time at the Bolshoi (1, 3 & 5 December), Ivan Gyngazov will play the role of Sergei (2 & 4 December).

La Traviata. Guest performer
Stanislav Kuflyuk makes his Bolshoi Theatre debut as Georgio Germont.

Leading Russian and International opera singers will take part in November series of performances.
