Dance to Recognition08.05.2016
Rudolf Nureyev – Dance to Freedom, the BBC2 television film (Richard Curson Smith – author of script, producer and director) in which Bolshoi Ballet principal Artem Ovcharenko appears in the title role, has been nominated for a British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award in the Television Best Specialist Factual (docudrama) category. This is a category for films and programs based on documentary material from history, history of the arts, natural history and sciences but which may include moments of dramatic acting. Rudolf Nureyev – Dance to Freedom has already been shown in England, the USA, Australia, France and Germany. The Russian première was in January of this year at Lenfilm Studios. The film got favorable reviews from critics so the fact that it is a BAFTA nominee comes as no surprise. The winners of the British Academy Television awards (they receive gold masks!) will be announced on 8 May.
