Eugene Onegin in Aix-en-Provence: Return Visit of the Bolshoi19.07.2017
This April, on the New Stage of the Bolshoi Theatre the International Opera Festival d'Aix-en-Provence (France) featured the most significant performances of recent seasons, the new opera by George Benjamin Written on Skin and Trauernacht, a stage performance of J.S. Bach cantatas, directed by Katie Mitchell, one of the most sought-after stage directors. Although the memories and impressions of the performances, which attract considerable interest in Moscow, are still perceptible, the Bolshoi Theatre is preparing a return visit to Aix, as a follow up to such successfully launched cooperation. On July 19, at the Grand Théâtre de Provence (a relatively new stage was inaugurated in July 2007 to accommodate the increasing numbers of opera connoisseurs coming to Aix-en-Provence each year) Bolshoi's soloists, choir and orchestra, under the baton of Tugan Sokhiev, will present Russian classics, Tchaikovsky’s opera Eugene Onegin in a concert performance. The cast included leading soloists Anna Nechaeva, Igor Golovatenko, Bogdan Volkov, soloists Svetlana Shilova, Maria Gavrilova, Stanislav Mostovoy, Goderdzi Janelidze and the soloist of the Bolshoi’s Young artists opera program Evgenia Asanova; Prince Gremin’s part will be performed by Estonian bass Ain Anger, the soloist of Vienna State Opera.
