Biography
One of the most talented buffo baritones of Italian and international operatic scene, Marco Filippo Romano has already sung in such leading theatres and festivals as La Fenice di Venezia, Regio di Torino, Comunale di Bologna, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Real de Madrid, Bayerische Staatsoper and Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich, Den Norske Opera in Oslo, Daegu Opera House (South Korea), Glyndebourne Festival, Wexford Festival, Festival della Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca.Born in Caltanissetta (Sicily), he has begun to study as a singer after graduating in horn from the Conservatory V. Bellini in Palermo.
A great performer of Rossini’s roles, Don Bartolo in Il Barbiere di Siviglia is a signature role for him, performed with great success in many venues both in Italy and abroad, including Turin, Florence, Genoa, Bologna, Oslo and South Korea. He was also acclaimed by public and critics at Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro (Don Profondo in Il Viaggio a Reims and Raimondo Lopez in Matilde di Shabran) and at Festival Rossini in Wildbad (Leuthold in Guillaume Tell and Omar in Siège de Corinthe).
Among the many other characters that he has successfully portrayed, we can mention Don Magnifico in La Cenerentola, Don Geronio in Il Turco in Italia, Taddeo in L’italiana in Algeri, Mozart’s roles such as Leporello in Don Giovanni and Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte, Donizetti’s roles including the title role in Don Pasquale, Dulcamara and Belcore in L’elisir d’amore, Mamma Agata in Le conveninenze ed inconvenienze teatrali, but his repertoire also includes operas from XVIII century to XX century and contemporary music, for instance La Generala in Salieri’s Il mondo alla rovescia, Max in Le Chalet by Adam, Albrigòr in La donna serpente by Casella, Schaunard in La bohème, Felice in Battistelli’s Il medico dei pazzi.
Marco Filippo Romano has already worked with such conductors as Michele Mariotti, Daniele Rustioni, Enrique Mazzola, Andrea Battistoni, Stefano Montanari, and directors such as Mario Martone, Emilio Sagi, Daniele Abbado, Joan Font, Francesco Micheli, Marco Gandini e Rosetta Cucchi.

In 2019, he appeared at the Bolshoi Theatre in the title role in Don Pasquale.
