Biography

Born in Moscow. In 1973 he finished the Moscow Choreographic School under Leonid Zhdanov (now the Moscow State Choreographic Academy).
From 1974 to 1991 he danced with the Bolshoi Ballet Company.
He worked at the London City Ballet Company starting at 1991.
A striking dramatic talent assisted him in creating artistic-expressive characters in modern ballets — and he danced practically in all ballets produced during his stay with the Company.
Now he
is a teacher-repetiteur at the Bolshoi Theater. He works with Andrei Merkuriev, Andrei Bolotin, Andrei Evdokimov, Alexander Smolyaninov.
His daughter, Ekaterina Barykina, continues the family dynasty — she is a dancer in the Bolshoi Ballet Company as well.
He starred in the TV-concert “I want to dance” (1985) and others.
